2014 Remodeling Trends: Modern, and “Green”.
The growing trends for 2014 gives us a fresh new look. 2013 saw an active 10% rise in remodel projects according to the 2013 Hanley Wood Survey. And many remodelers are projecting another 10% growth in 2014. So with all that growth, like fashion, there are always new and exciting trends.
Over 61% of remodelers expect to complete a kitchen remodel job in 2014, according to Remodeling Magazine. And the trend these remodelers expect to see is modern, white and grey sleek clean lines, and minimalist. With the use of simple countertops, like you can find with quartz, glossy finishes, and hidden or flush appliances.
This is a departure from the rustic style, with warm colors, textured surfaces, industrial sized appliances and wrought iron hardware.
Bathrooms are expected to big the second largest change in the home in 2014. Remodel jobs and additions will see less claw-foot tubs and wainscoting, but more resort style bathrooms, with large walk-in showers, multiple shower heads and body sprays, heated floors and jetted bathtubs. According to Realtor.com. And storage will be a necessity, with large double vanities, undermount sinks, in lieu of vessel sinks. Bright or neutral cool greys, whites and blues will be in demand along with sleek quartz or stone granite countertops.
Going green is nothing new, but sustainability may get easier in 2014. According to Craig Webb, editor-in-chief of Remodeling Magazine, “Manufacturers and builders are constantly getting greener and greener in the way they source materials and put up homes.” As a result, “Energy efficiency is becoming an assumption, not an add-on.” Next year, remodels will include more renewable materials such as bamboo, energy-efficient appliances and additional designs that incorporate the local climate.
Now is a good time to also explore sustainable countertop options. Made up of an attractive, durable, material comprised of concrete and recycled glass. “Icestone”, is entirely sourced in the USA. And “Vetrazzo”, is an extremely durable and easy-to-maintain surface. They are both comparable to Granite in strength, heat resistance, and maintenance.
